The television had been dominated by people arguing about who was going to be the next king or queen of the country pretty much non-stop for days now, so Hyacinthe had retreated to his room to find something else to do. As entertaining as the television was ('twas like a world of plays on command!), he had noticed that a great deal of it could be oddly repetitive at times. What was with the show about breakfast foods that spent all their time weeping? Why was that a thing?

He had tried writing a letter to Ph├Ędre, but could not think of anything he'd done in the past month or so worth the ink. So instead, he lounged on his bed, flipping through the Ecstatica, while debating who might be around that he could bother. He found himself missing Night's Doorstep fiercely; today would be the perfect day to visit the Cockerel with Emile and fleece visiting noble lads and lasses out of coin over a few hands of cards.

Ada had gone on a common room hunt after work, scrounging all the floors for sweets or crackers or sodas or something to tide her over until dinner time, when she saw the door to 516 open.

"Which of 'm favorite boys is home?" she asked, sticking her head in with a grin. "'M bored."

Ada, you have a lot of favorite boys. Narrow it down a bit.

[SP love?]

"Well, you're clearly th' most handsome an' charming person currently in th' room!" she pointed out cheerfully, wandering in. Since, well, he was the only one in the room when she said it, therefore, it was true. "Tho 'm here now, so I might be th' most charming."

Modesty, thy name was not Miller.

"Don't think you're s'posed t' call me a liar out loud," Ada retorted merrily. "It deducts from your Charming Points. If'n a lady is exageratin' or just plain wrong, you should smile and nod an' laugh on th' inside."

Ada, there aren't any ladies in this room and you damn well know it.

"That's exactly it," Ada said sagely, crossing the room to sit down next to him rather than loiter about the door. "You should always smile more, anyways. 'S too pretty a smile t' hide."

She laughed as he took her hand, mirth dancing in her eyes. "B'sides your pretty smile an' eyes?" she teased, pretending to think about it.

"That shining wit of yours, p'haps? I ain't heard near enough stories from you lately." And Ada was a voracious collector of stories, even when indulging in outright flattery. "What're you reading, anyway?"

Ada's laugh at Hya's flirting was cut off by a sharp inhale at his nip, and she regarded him bemusedly. "I think this is where 'm supposed 't say 'trainin' for what?' but I feel like that's a trap," she replied, though it didn't stop her from scooting closer and leaning her head on his shoulder so she could see better. "But 'm not surprised at your connections."

Ada snorted in amusement. "'M pretty sure it takes at least two t' play," she teased. "If'n he don't trust you with Miss Phedre, then he don't trust her none neither."

"What sort of information does he think you're gonna find here, anyway? How very pretty all your friends are?"

Anders ... was bored. Bored, and restless, and roaming the halls of the dorms looking for either a snack or some kind of trouble.

The right kind of trouble.

He glanced into one of the dorm rooms he passed and saw Hyacinthe's dark head bent over some book. On impulse, he leaned in. "Please tell me you wouldn't mind a visitor."

Anders snickered as he obeyed the beckoning finger to step into the room.

"I can do charming," he said. "I'm not sure about intriguing, but it doesn't matter, since you're too involved in your book to talk to me anyhow."

Anders felt a funny little catch in his throat at the smile.

"I only caught on that you weren't actually talking about threshing halfway through," he said. "I assume you don't actually have to be in a barn."

"Now that sounds like a good story," Anders commented, taking the seat next to Hyacinthe. "... naming no names, of course."
