Ella wasn't the only surprise Miller wandering around the island this weekend; Zia had been waiting when they arrived with a shrug and an off-hand, 'I knew you was gonna be here'. Hya loved littles, his or otherwise, and had spent much of the weekend with Zia going on 'adventures' across the island. The tiny girl had a wild imagination, which had led them to battling trees in the preserve and using the swingset at the park to fly up into a kingdom in the sky and petting horses at the stable who were Tsingani-bred and learned secrets from the wind that they would share if you brushed them right and gave them treats.

For now, though, they were curled up in an arm chair in the hotel, Zia dictating a rambling story about a carnie princess while Hyacinthe wrote it down. Later, Zia was going to draw pictures to go with it, so she could give it to her mommy before she went home again. Hya smiled and nodded and wrote everything down in his very best handwriting and tried not to let his heart break over the villain in the story being 'the mean old Mr. Ocean who takes and takes an' never gives nothin' back.'

One would think that with both experience and the dromonde at his disposal, Hyacinthe would be better prepared for the day after prom than he was. Blame it on the pollen, perhaps; the vast majority of his attention had been thoroughly compromised by thoughts of all the very pretty people on the island. And what little he'd had left over had been wrapped up in thoughts of prom and Ada.

He had surprised her with a hotel room after prom had finished. Prom itself hadn't been a good enough reason to get one, but he'd wanted to do better by Ada than simply smuggling her back to his dorm room--even if he was sure she would have enjoyed the smuggling, mischievous sprite that she was.

But had he been thinking--or just generally prepared--he definitely wouldn't have kept them up until almost dawn, falling asleep only after the sky had begun to lighten in anticipation of sunrise. And he definitely would have pulled on a pair of pants to sleep.

Funny how even a seer could be caught so unprepared.
