Ella wasn't the only surprise Miller wandering around the island this weekend; Zia had been waiting when they arrived with a shrug and an off-hand, 'I knew you was gonna be here'. Hya loved littles, his or otherwise, and had spent much of the weekend with Zia going on 'adventures' across the island. The tiny girl had a wild imagination, which had led them to battling trees in the preserve and using the swingset at the park to fly up into a kingdom in the sky and petting horses at the stable who were Tsingani-bred and learned secrets from the wind that they would share if you brushed them right and gave them treats.

For now, though, they were curled up in an arm chair in the hotel, Zia dictating a rambling story about a carnie princess while Hyacinthe wrote it down. Later, Zia was going to draw pictures to go with it, so she could give it to her mommy before she went home again. Hya smiled and nodded and wrote everything down in his very best handwriting and tried not to let his heart break over the villain in the story being 'the mean old Mr. Ocean who takes and takes an' never gives nothin' back.'

[Primarily for the little and her mom, but open!]

Ada slipped in as unobtrusively as possible, carrying two bags of groceries for the next day or so. Sorry, Zia, but your mama was going to make sure you got spoiled with as many quiet, loving family meals as possible while you were here, and as best she could make while living in a hotel room.

If she was just going to quietly put the bags down and watch them for a bit, leaning back against the wall to stay quiet and small and not interrupt them, well, she didn't really think Hya could blame her.

Hya had only a moment to look up and greet Ada with a soft, warm smile before his scribe services were in need again. "An' then Princess Sparkle told mean Mr. Ocean, 'No! You gotta give my friends back or else!'" Zia explaining. "An' she shook her magic wand at him and he was real scared."

"'Th ocean ain't got much sense you see," Ada spoke up, abandoning putting away their food in favor of coming over and climbing on the chair with both of them, snuggling in. They'd make it all fit. "It needs a good scolding from a princess."

"Her name is Princess Sparkle," Zia explained. "Cause her skin is all sparkly and pretty. And she's gonna beat up the mean Mr. Ocean who stealed all her friends and stuff. And make 'im give 'em all back."

"She sounds like a brave and kind princess t' me," Ada said, giving Zia a kiss on the forehead. "Has your papa been writin' it all down for you?"

Zia giggled. "And then I'm gonna draw pictures an' color 'em," she said. "So it's like a real book."

Yes, Hyacinthe, you get a kiss too. One that's a little more rated PG than G, even.

"What a clever girl we have," she said, cuddling them both close. "Are we sure we didn't steal her from fairies?"

"Don't be silly," Zia chided. "I'm your little girl, not the fairies'! Untie Waffle says no one else could have ever come up with a girl like me."

Well, not 'said' so much. But Zia and Waffle never had much trouble communicating.
